About the role

The Board Treasurer is a volunteer Responsible Person within AMAPP's governance structure. As a grassroots, community-driven organisation, AMAPP relies on passionate volunteers committed to building ethical and accessible PAT from the ground up. The Treasurer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding AMAPP's financial health, guiding strategic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The role requires approximately 5 hours per month, with peaks at budgeting, audit, and EOFY periods. All meetings are held online.

Key responsibilities

Financial oversight

  • Oversee budgets, financial statements, and bookkeeping
  • Present financial reports at monthly board meetings
  • Implement financial controls and risk management processes
  • Advise on sustainable revenue models (grants, memberships, partnerships)

Compliance and governance

  • Ensure timely ACNC, ATO, and charity compliance
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors
  • Oversee any bookkeepers or finance contractors
  • Build financial literacy across the board
Responsible Person duties (ACNC Standard 5)

As a Responsible Person, the Treasurer must:

  • Act with care and diligence in all matters
  • Act honestly and in the charity's best interests at all times
  • Not misuse their position or confidential information
  • Disclose conflicts of interest promptly and appropriately
  • Ensure financial affairs are managed responsibly
  • Not allow the charity to operate while insolvent
Selection criteria — essential
  • Financial competence in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to a non-specialist board
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability
  • Tech proficiency with accounting tools and video conferencing
  • Commitment to AMAPP's mission and values
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check prior to appointment
  • Not listed on the ASIC/ACNC Disqualified Persons Register
Selection criteria — highly valued
  • CPA/CA qualification or NFP governance experience
  • Knowledge of ACNC compliance and charity reporting
  • Experience with grants, fundraising, or donor engagement
  • Previous board or treasurer role in a not-for-profit organisation
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, equity-based approaches
  • Lived experience with mental health or psychedelic therapy
Appointment process

New Treasurers begin with a 3-month trial period attending board meetings and performing Treasurer duties before formal appointment is notified to the ACNC. Ongoing terms are per AMAPP's constitution.

Volunteer Secretary

About the role

The Volunteer Secretary plays a vital role in supporting the smooth governance, administration, and membership operations of AMAPP. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to a growing professional association at the forefront of ethical, safe, and evidence-informed practice in the psychedelic field in Australia.

The role requires approximately 2 hours per week, with flexibility around monthly Board and Advisor meetings and periodic administrative demands.

Key responsibilities

Governance and meeting support

  • Prepare and distribute agendas for Board, committee, and Advisor meetings
  • Attend monthly meetings with the Board and Advisors
  • Take accurate meeting minutes and circulate them in a timely manner
  • Track action items and support follow-up with relevant members

Administrative and record keeping

  • Maintain governance documentation, operational records, and policy files
  • Support charity administration and governance processes in line with ACNC requirements
  • Assist in preparing reports and correspondence as required

Membership and credentialing support

  • Manage and maintain the AMAPP membership register
  • Support the AMAPP Credential Team with member approval processes
  • Assist with member communication, onboarding, and enquiries
Essential skills and requirements
  • A clear, professional, and confident communicator (written and verbal)
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Technologically literate and comfortable using digital systems and platforms
  • Policy- and process-focused, with the ability to follow procedures carefully
  • Reliable, discreet, and able to follow through on tasks independently
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar)
  • Comfortable using Mighty Networks and other common digital platforms
  • Able to maintain accurate records and support membership, governance, and compliance processes
  • Willing to learn and support ACNC-related compliance and reporting requirements
  • Aligned with AMAPP's values of professionalism, ethics, collaboration, and care
Desirable experience
  • Administration or secretarial support roles
  • Not-for-profit, Board, or governance support
  • Membership coordination or management
  • Credentialing, approval, or compliance processes
  • Policy, charity administration, or regulatory reporting
  • Interest in or experience with mental health, ethics, education, or the psychedelic field

Grants and Funding Volunteer

About the role

The Grants and Funding Volunteer will support AMAPP in identifying and securing funding streams to advance our strategic goals. This includes resourcing First Nations membership funds, community education, research translation, national events, and infrastructure development (website, member tools, learning platforms). The role involves collaboration using co-design principles to ensure funding approaches reflect the diverse voices and needs within our community.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify local, national, and international grants aligned with AMAPP's mission
  • Draft compelling, values-driven funding applications
  • Collaborate with board and advisors to gather supporting material
  • Maintain a grants tracker with deadlines, reporting dates, and outcomes
  • Assist in writing sponsorship documents and donor engagement materials
  • Explore philanthropic partnerships, in-kind support, and crowd-funding opportunities
Selection criteria

Essential

  • Excellent research and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive grant content
  • Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and follow through with professionalism
  • Alignment with AMAPP's values of integrity, safety, lived experience, inclusion, and co-design
  • Capacity to manage sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Confidence using a range of technology systems, including cloud-based platforms, document collaboration tools, and virtual communication platforms (Google Workspace, Zoom, etc.)
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new digital tools and systems in a remote, team-based environment

Desirable

  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or philanthropic engagement
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit, mental health, psychedelic therapy, or social justice sectors
  • Understanding of culturally respectful language and engagement with First Nations communities
  • Experience engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), LGBTQIA+, and disability communities
