Accreditation

Apply for AMAPP accreditation.

Accreditation recognises practitioners who meet the standards the field requires: rigorous training, supervised clinical experience, personal development work, and a demonstrated commitment to ethical practice. Accreditation is a credential you earn on top of AMAPP membership, so you will need to be a current member before you apply. Completing it earns you accredited status in the member community, an accreditation badge, and a listing in AMAPP's public practitioner directory.

Accreditation is assessed after you join. Applications are not open yet while the guidelines are finalised. Email credentialing@amapp.org.au to be told the day they open.

Pathways

Three pathways to accreditation.

Accreditation maps to the role you hold in a psychedelic-assisted therapy team. Each pathway carries its own badge and its own entry requirements, and every pathway shares a common core: at least 100 hours of theory, supervised clinical experience, experiential learning, personal development work, and a demonstrated commitment to ethical practice.

What this credential is: AMAPP accreditation is a voluntary professional credential. It is not a licence to practise, it does not replace registration with your professional body, and it does not by itself qualify you to work under the TGA Authorised Prescriber scheme. Membership and accreditation are different things, and only accredited practitioners appear in the public practitioner directory.

Policy update in progress: credential policy updates are coming soon, following new TGA frameworks. The requirements on this page reflect AMAPP's current Accreditation and Supervision Guidelines. Accreditation applications are on hold until that review is complete. Both are under review, and this page will be updated once the revised policies are approved.

Why the roles matter together: Under the TGA Authorised Prescriber scheme, every MDMA or psilocybine therapy team must include at least one practitioner registered as a clinical psychologist, a medical practitioner with general registration, a nurse with mental health experience, or an occupational therapist, and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy must sit within that practitioner's scope of practice. The Authorised Prescriber psychiatrist approves the competence of every team member. AMAPP's Therapist and Facilitator credentials describe therapeutic role and competence, and sit alongside those TGA team positions rather than replacing them. A team cannot be formed from two Facilitators without an appropriately qualified Therapist.

Two levels

Provisional, then full.

Every pathway is awarded at one of two levels. You can be accredited provisionally while you complete your supervised hours, then progress to full accreditation once the requirements are met.

AMAPP Provisional Prescriber badgeAMAPP Provisional Therapist badgeAMAPP Provisional Facilitator badge

Provisional

For practitioners in training, or working under supervision toward full accreditation. Your provisional badge reflects your pathway while you complete the remaining dosing sessions and supervision hours.

Full

For practitioners who have completed the requisite training and supervision. Full accreditation carries the full pathway badge and public directory listing.

Move from provisional to full by completing your outstanding supervised dosing sessions and supervision hours, then letting the credentialling team know you are ready to be reassessed.

A credential on top

Become a Supervisor.

AMAPP Supervisor accreditation badge

Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy Supervisor

Supervisor accreditation builds on eligibility for accreditation as a Psychedelic-Assisted Therapist, for experienced practitioners who support and sign off the next cohort. It is what lets you provide the supervision that other applicants need.

Extra requirements, on top of full Therapist accreditation

  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or mentoring role.
  • At least 4 dosing sessions delivered over a period of at least 12 months.
  • Experience across the full arc of care: preparation, dosing, and integration.

How assessment works

From application to accredited.

Accreditation is earned, not bought. Every application is assessed by a person against the AMAPP Accreditation Guidelines.

01

Apply as a member

Join AMAPP first. The application form opens once the updated guidelines are approved by the Board, and members who have asked are told the day it does.

02

Assessed against the Guidelines

The PAT and Supervisor credentialling team assesses your application against the AMAPP Accreditation Guidelines. Nuanced cases are referred to the Chair.

03

More information if needed

The team may come back to you for further detail or evidence before reaching a decision.

04
